i met up with a friend that i have neglected for a long time yesterday.
a friend whom i respect and love dearly.
we used to hang out everyday, spending nights talking endlessly about life, but we are like strangers now, barely meeting at all.
im glad the meetup happened, really.

sometimes in life we tend to neglect some people, or some stuffs,
but as long we remember and initiate,
its never too late.

im all done and set with communication theory, and i cant wait to get done and over with nutrition on friday!
very excited about the shopping trip with maggie tmr!

dad's back from taiwan and this time, he didnt get me anything!

its almost midway through december.
loads of memories and flashbacks are popping up in my mind.
esp those that happened during the festive season.
there were both good and bad memories:
good ones are those that include the good house parties during christmas spent with loved ones, as well as the times when i hung out with eunice in town just to capture the deco, lovely dinners, good food, good company.

as much as i love christmas and new year, i think i sort of dread them too.
whenever i hear people counting down together, i cant help but to cringe and try to hold back my tears ( for one, i dont know if its cry of joy/ cry of fear).

sometimes i miss the good ol' days when i was still a kid: mom and dad would bring the whole family to marina mandarin hotel, and we'll meet up with aunt anthea's family and countdown with every other family there. i like that alot because we always head home with fruitful rewards. tons of party packs and balloons that are released from the nets right on the top floor of the hotel's main lobby when its 0000 on 25th dec and 1st jan. i wonder if they still hold the same ceremony annually now.

i dont know why but i think its human nature for us to start reminiscing the past when the year's coming to a closure.

i miss happytimes shopping in bangkok, i miss madtimes shopping in hongkong with love, i miss goodtimes in melb with my cousin (even though they made me ski in the intermediate zone which can cause my death, but i enjoyed it still, tremendously).

i miss all my friends who i've left out in recent months.

hello people.
im in search of a good issue to write about but my mind zonked out.
i give myself a pat on the back for trying to come up with a useful topic but for now, im gonna stick to writing about my personal life.

i've been thinking about organising a christmas party on christmas eve, and get people to come over to my place or love's place. we can just set up simple tables and order turkey and ham and logcakes plus some other christmas delights and have our friends over for some lovin'. hahaha! for dinner actually. loads of ideas are vying for attention in my head!

i think i'd wanna invite about 20 friends, have dinner, set up mahjong tables, xbox or whatever other games, grab a mini christmas tree (i think i have one leftover from last year somewhere in my storeroom) and play drinking games, play texas poker and do whatever that'll keep us happy and occupied!

we'll kick away the lonely home-alone nights on christmas eve, oh-so-boring stay-home with family on christmas nights (unless your parents are so happening they'll smoke weed and play poker and drink like a fish with you), and the spend-the-whole-night-queueing outside the popular clubs and go in just to find yourself handicapped (unable to move swiftly). we'll hurl these ideas out, and just spend the christmas at the house party................. omgomg, just talking about it makes me damn excited!

the only thing that matters now is neither the food, nor the location, BUT tthe people who are on the invitation list. pleasepleaseplease, share the love, show some spontaneity! thank you very much!

if all fails,
im gonna just have a christmas dinner with my parents and love, and make sure its a happening night!
i'll make my parents smoke weed and i'll teach them how to play texas poker, and the loser gets to open up my father's collection of liquor and whack them all.

Success:

To be successful in life is often the main objective of living for many people, but what exactly is success? To me, success is when you have wealth, good education, and have a good position in your career or status in the society. Many claim that there are no secrets to success: the only way to success is to work hard. However, some argue that luck- good fortune and advantage of success that happen by chance, plays a part to one’s success.

Success is the result of mainly hard work because you can control the amount of hard work and effort you put in but you cannot control luck.

Luck, at the right place and at the right time is very important. Let’s talk about luck at its most basic level. Often we hear people talking about luck, both good and bad. An idea on good luck will be when one is at the right place and right time, he or she can escape death because he or she is just one step away from the fallen killer litter. On the other hand, someone unlucky can be killed in the same situation.

At a more specific level, those who think that luck is the factor to success will compare between people who are born in a rich or poor family. For example, if one is born in a wealthy family, he or she is without a doubt rich, and he or she can get money to go through good education, and get a good position in the family company. These points fulfill the definition of success. However, I feel that hard work is important too because if one do not work hard to maintain the position, he or she cannot stay successful for long.

Luck is uncontrollable, unpredictable and it cannot last for long. Juvenal once said, “A lucky man is rarer than a white crow”. Luck is uncontrollable because you cannot choose to be born in a wealthy family. Luck is unpredictable and it cannot last for long because for instance, it is unlikely and not that easy for one to be so lucky to strike lottery. One can be really lucky to strike lottery, but it is impossible to gauge when it will happen. Even if one strikes lottery, the money cannot last if he or she does not spend it wisely. I can sense many what ifs approaching me. “What if the prize money is 6 million and is enough to last a lifetime?” “What if the one who strikes lottery spend the money wisely and is enough to last a lifetime?” Firstly, I will congratulate the one who wins the winning lottery ticket of 6 million dollars, only if it really happens. Think about it! What are the chances of that happening? Almost none! Secondly, even if one manages to save and scrimp to make the winnings from the lottery to last his lifetime, what will happen to the next generation? His son or daughter cannot possibly use the money to last their lifetime as well.

I have another example that shows that luck cannot bring good fortune or success that will last. My friend, Amelia, was a fresh graduate from university. She managed to get through the job interview at a company to be a manager with a very high salary a couple of months ago. She was elated at that time and everyone in my family kept insisting that she was lucky. Amelia did not work hard enough to keep up with her job tasks and guess what? She got sacked after a month. This example shows how luck cannot last a lifetime if you do not use hard work to maintain your success.

David Bly said, “Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted.” The consequence of believing that success is due to luck and not hard work will only make you waste your time in vain waiting for luck to happen because luck is unpredictable. Furthermore, if you believe that luck causes success or failure, you will tend to blame if on bad luck if you fail and you will then hesitate to work on it.

I believe that success is due to hard work. Like what Thomas Alva Edison said, “There is no substitute for hard work.” Usually hardworking people are the ones who will succeed. I experienced this in my secondary school days, where majority of the best students are the most hardworking ones.

Take Michael Jordan, one of the most recognized athletes in the world for example. Is Michael Jordan’s success due to luck? Not quite. Michael Jordan trained very hard to get to where he is today. He had the talent for basketball, but he put in a lot of hard work as well. Michael Jordan said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you, if you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” He is trying to tell people not to give up easily because as long as you work hard and try hard enough, you will succeed eventually. “Hard work without talent is a shame, but talent without hard work is a tragedy.” Robert Half said. Michael Jordan has the talent for basketball, but if he did not put in hard work to train, it is really a tragedy because he will not be who he is now.

“Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” Oprah Winfrey said. The following example will tell on how luck is used appropriately with hard work to cause success. Bill Gates was neither the smartest nor the most hardworking student in his school, but he is now one of the richest men in the world. Is his success due to luck? It was not purely luck that led Bill Gates to his success. Bill Gates had a hard time working and building up his career, and there was only a small element of luck playing a part. Bill Gates was lucky to find an abandoned software program and as he was able to see it as an opportunity, he took the software program and edited it, changing it to Microsoft. Microsoft was the software that led him to his success. If Bill Gates did not put in hard work to change the software program, or put in hard work to maintain his success, he would not be what he is now.

Today, we are living a comfortable life due to the hard work of others. The Wright brothers invented the airplane and made travelling overseas to far countries possible. Thomas Alva Edison created light bulbs to remove darkness. Did they invent things due to luck? No. They tried many times before it led to the success of their inventions. It is hard work that caused their success.

In conclusion, I feel that success is the result of mainly hard work. Luck is just a bonus that comes and goes randomly, thus one has to know how to use luck as an opportunity to aid them in their success.

i wanted to write an entry that starts with the cheesy 'its a cold and chilly night, im alone and feeling emo' shit on one of the days during the long weekend but i was just too preoccupied with doing nothing in particular.

the first issue that came onto my mind was the reason(s) behind comparison.
i wonder..............
why do people compare?

i guess humans compare simply because its our nature to want to get the best deal.
thus, when we're stuck in situations like-
1. there are several choices available and we get to choose one of them.
2. we made a choice and we are unsure if it is the right choice because shit happened.

the second issue that popped, or rather, slapped me hard on my face would be an inevitable issue with many: money.

after much discussion with my boyfriend,

i dont think these people deserve that.

hello,
im back!
the trip to hongkong was real tiring, but still, im happy!
the total damage was pretty bad,
and stupid lydia had to comment that i spent so much on "junk",
in her case, because i did not purchase any designer goods.

the 5d4n were all spent on shopping, shopping and more shopping.
no sightseeing, and no disneyland.
except the half day spent at ocean park,
which sucks,
because i dont fancy the underwater creatures or animals there.
plus the long cable car ride was the most terrible i swear.
i was clinging to the pole throughout!
the rides there are boring,
and the scariest ride was closed for maintanence, damn!

weather in hkg,
terrible terrible!
i melted and felt like dying in ocean park, and i'd do anything to just get some air con.

i had several interesting and amusing experiences in hkg.
i remember the night where ken and i headed to ladies street,
i thought that the things were really cheap so i didnt really bargain for any further discount, moreover i feel kinda awkward.
chin ken hon, power, i tell you, he taught me how to bargain without awkwardness.
okay, here goes:

step 1: look interested in buying the item you caught your eye on and start touching it.
step 2: when approached by the sales assistant, ask for the price of the item.
step 3: ask for a calculator.
step 4: press the amount you are willing to pay for the item.
step 5: buy if sales assistant agrees/ walk away otherwise (they will stop you and compromise!)

when sweetheart, who was holding on to my LV bag because i needed free hands to browse, placed my bag on the table with the A-grade fake LV bags and acted as though he's really gonna leave them there for good.

another one's also about the fake goods,
but this time its the tiffany and co items.
i was wearing my tiffany and co necklace and sweetheart was browsing until he picked up on that was identical to mine and looked interested in buying it.

we shopped in alot of places that are popular with the tourists,
like Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mongkok, Jordan, and Yau Ma Tei.
things in Mongkok are dirtcheap!
you can easily get nice denim shorts at its like Bangkok, just that the people in Mongkok are pretty rude and rowdy.
we did not really shop in Central, we just went to H&M and got some stuff.
the other shops there are Zara, AX, and other high-market stuff, so we just skipped them.
the stuff at all the other places are pretty affordable, but i think i like Causeway Bay and TST's stuffs the most.

it is pretty costly to have a meal in hkg.
in sg, we can easily get a bowl or noodles or a plate of chicken rice at 3-5 bucks but over there in hkg, it cost at least 6-10 bucks for a similar meal.
for normal hkg cafes,
the waitresses are rude!
we dont even have time to look through the whole menu and they will start demanding for your order.
if you ask them to wait, they will tell you to hurry up because they are doing business, WTF.
yeah culture shock.
but its okay, i can chopchop too,
